![]() For this reason, I only like to use concealer on a day-to-day basis ( Tarte’s Shape Tape being my go-to at the moment). In other words, foundation enhances my dull complexion, hyperpigmentation, ever-expanding pores and makes me look much older than I am. Maybe it’s my fine lines and budding wrinkles, but foundation makes me look like a faded film star desperately trying to recapture her youth (à la Sunset Boulevard ). I’ll be honest with you-I don’t like wearing foundation. Ahead, I break down everything you need to know-including its coverage, longevity, and application-to help you decide if Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation is worth your money or not. So what is it about this foundation that makes it a fan favorite? And why don’t loyal users bat an eye when it comes to its hefty $64 price tag? To find out, I put this legendary foundation to the test. It's no wonder Luminous Silk won its category in our 2022 Beauty Awards.Īlong with a laundry list of accolades, Luminous Silk also has the stamp of approval from royals (like Meghan Markle), A-listers, and beauty editors alike. Taking the number one spot was Luminous Foundation by Anastasia Beverly Hills, followed by Pro Filt’r by Fenty Beauty. In fact, according to a 2019 end-of-year study conducted by Cherry Pick, Luminous Silk was the number three best-selling foundation in the country. It even sells in record numbers-the brand’s site states that roughly 1,000 bottles are sold in the United States alone each day. ![]() And although there have been some up-and-coming talents (think BB creams and tinted moisturizers ), the Luminous Silk Foundation remains a classic that withstands the test of time and trends (just like our beloved elusive chanteuse ). It’s got a diva reputation, has serious range, and stands out solidly on its own. Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation is like the Mariah Carey of makeup.

![]() I especially appreciated the set of hooks at the bend in the ankle, which allowed me to lock in my heels on long climbs. The excellent lacing system, which has been a signature feature of the Quest line dating back to the original, plays a big role in its performance on rough trails. In short, the Quest may be overkill on a casual, short-mileage weekend trip, but it was the ideal pairing for the technical terrain we were hiking in Patagonia. The semi-stiff structure does a great job holding your feet in place without feeling restrictive like a mountaineering boot, and time and again I was impressed with how easy it was to trust my footing when carrying a heavy load on loose, rocky ground. The collar sits higher over the ankle than a standard mid-height boot like the Merrell Moab 2 or Keen Targhee III, but it’s the solid support that sets it apart. One of the main reasons to upgrade to the Quest over a lightweight hiking boot or shoe is its stable feel. ![]() And importantly with this tread design, the lugs have not shown any signs of excessive wear. The Huemul Circuit is about as demanding and varied as it gets, and I can’t remember one misstep across rock-covered glaciers, up steep passes with hairy and loose descents, and numerous creek crossings (at least the ones shallow enough to keep my boots on). Having worn the older Quest 4D 2s extensively over the last few years, I didn’t have major complaints with the traction, but the 3s do seem to have a little more bite on steep sections, and especially on wet surfaces (likely due to the more pliable rubber). The old wave-like look and stiff rubber compound has been replaced with better spacing to avoid caking up in mud, along with a softer Contagrip rubber. Visually, the Salomon Quest 4D 3 and its predecessor are very similar when upright, but flip them over and you see that Salomon completely redesigned the outsole. But for demanding trails and those who want the support, the Quest is worth the additional ounces. If you’re in the market for a lighter and more flexible boot, we recommend the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX (1 lb. But I think the weight is well-spent with a tall ankle height, burly protection, and class-leading support and comfort. 6.4 oz.) both considerably undercut the Salomon. 7 oz.) and Scarpa Zodiac Plus GTX (2 lbs. ![]() For instance, competitors like the Lowa Renegade GTX Mid (2 lbs. And even within the sturdy backpacking-ready category, the Quest falls a little on the heavy side. It’s difficult to pinpoint the source of the improvement-the forefoot is a little more flexible than the old boot taking some of the sting out of each step, and the outsole’s rubber compound also has more “give”-but Salomon seems to have turned this old nitpick into a non-issue.Īt 2 pounds 13.8 ounces for a pair of men’s size 9s (just 0.6 ounces heavier than its listed weight), the Salomon Quest 4D 3 is almost exactly the same weight as the previous model (this bucks the trend in hiking footwear of always going lighter). But after a strenuous four-day trek in the 4D 3 in precisely that situation, I’m confident in saying the newer hiking boot does a better job isolating your feet from the ground. One of my few complaints with the old Quest 4D 2 was that the moderately thin construction underfoot would leave me with sore feet after long days on rocky trails when carrying a heavy pack. It’s stiff enough that I wouldn’t recommend taking it for a long trek straight out the box, but with only a few short hikes under my belt before starting the Huemul Circuit, it had loosened up enough to be fitting like a glove. The high collar and solid lacing system hold your foot and ankle snugly in place, but generous padding around the ankle and along the boot’s tongue make it very comfortable. When putting on the Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX, it’s immediately apparent that this is a serious boot. To see how it stacks up to the competition, see our article on the best hiking boots. Below we break down our experiences with the Quest 4D 3 GTX. The Quest is solidly made, provides fantastic support and protection for challenging trails, and retains the aggressive stance and nimble feel of previous generations. We put the boot to the test while backpacking the rugged Huemul Circuit in Patagonia and found it to be the perfect tool for the job. Salomon’s Quest 4D boot has headlined their backpacking lineup for years, and it remains a solid all-around performer in today’s market. ![]() Nageotte, Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Third Edition, 2003, p.

Since you'll be underneath the car and the potential of coolant hitting your face is high, it may be a good idea to wear a safety shield to protect your face. Tip: This job should only be completed when the engine is cold and has not been running for a minimum of one hour. ![]() Safety equipment including safety glasses and gloves. However, the difficult work comes in the preparation of the cooling system - both before and after. The actual process of replacing the coolant temperature sensor is extremely simple. Part 2 of 3: Remove and replace the coolant temperature sensor However, since all vehicles are unique, it's important to verify specific instructions with your vehicle’s manufacturer’s service manual before proceeding. Note: The process of removing the coolant temperature sensor is very consistent, regardless of the type of vehicle you own.If you notice coolant in front of the motor, it may be coming from the engine coolant temperature sensor's location. If your engine is overheating occasionally, the problem may be with the coolant temperature sensor.Ĭoolant is leaking under the motor: it's also common for the coolant temperature sensor to become loose and cause engine coolant to leak from under the motor. If this occurs, the potential of overheating becomes greater. The engine is overheating: on the reverse side, sometimes the sensor will fail entirely and won't be able to monitor the engine's coolant temperature. The result will be more black smoke being expelled from the exhaust port of the cylinder head and out the tail pipe. When the fuel mixture is rich (meaning more fuel than air in the vapor inside the combustion chamber) the cylinder will not be able to burn all the fuel. If you notice that your temperature warning light is on and the fuel mileage is really poor, it may be caused by the sensor.īlack smoke from the exhaust: another side effect of a rich engine is that black smoke (or unburnt carbon from fuel) will be present from the vehicle's exhaust when you accelerate. The side effect of this reaction is that the fuel economy will drastically be cut. This in turn triggers the ECM to either add more fuel or reduce air mixture to create a “rich” situation, designed to cool the cylinders and reduce the potential of overheating. The engine is getting poor fuel economy: when the coolant temperature sensor is not functioning correctly, it tends to relay false information to the engine control module. Noted below are a few of the warning signs that will alert you that the coolant temperature sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced. Before you make the decision to replace the coolant temperature sensor, make sure diagnose some of the warning signs of a faulty coolant temperature sensor. Taking time to properly diagnose the precise cause of the overheating situation is very important to providing a solution and actually fixing what is broken. ![]() When a problem occurs with engine heating or overheating, it may be due to one or multiple broken parts. The coolant system on today's cars, trucks, and SUV's is comprised of multiple components that work together to keep your engine running well. Part 1 of 3: Diagnosing a problem with the coolant temperature sensor If you discover that the sensor is failing, you'll have to replace this device by following the step-by-step instructions noted below. When the signal is sent to the ECM, the computer adjusts the vehicles ignition timing, fuel flow, and other factors that trim or enhance performance based on the coolant temperature.ĭue to the fact that engine temperature plays a vital role in the overall performance of any vehicle, having a properly functioning coolant temperature sensor is essential. The coolant temperature sensor (switch) utilizes electrical resistance to measure the coolant's temperature. When the sensor is functioning properly, it will tell your on board computer if the temperature is too high, alerting the driver that a problem exists by illuminating a warning light on the dashboard. The coolant temperature sensor, also known as the coolant temperature switch, is the engine management system that monitors the temperature of the coolant and relays this information to the ECM. One of the most important systems to monitor is the cooling system, which includes the radiator, water pump, radiator fan, coolant lines, and overflow tank. Today's engines monitor virtually every function to ensure your vehicle runs strongly and efficiently every day. ![]()

Phil Nickinson/Digital Trends The good news is that Netflix has flexible plans, allowing you to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time with no punitive fees. However, I haven't used anything that is a likely substitute for Hahnemuhle Photo Gloss Baryta, even though it scratches somewhat easily and has OBAs. My conclusion was that I'd very likely be essentially equally happy using only Palo Duro Softgloss Rag going forward. Last night-after noting that Hahnemuhle's website said that Photo Silk Baryta was discontinued, and while trying to decide whether to order up a stock of it-I spent some time looking at and comparing my prints on that paper, Canson Platine, and Red River Palo Duro Softgloss Rag. I experimented with Barytas but their susceptibility to scratching put me off so I switched to Platine type papers instead. Note one error below-the Ilford does contain OBAs. Hoping to include in testing, the new Canson Baryta Photographique II and Photographic II matte versions, for example, but none of my suppliers have the new papers yet. ![]() My research project at Aardenburg Imaging for 2020 is to look more closely at these OBA and TiO2 induced yellowing issues in the Baryta class of inkjet media, but I'm off to a very slow start due to the availability issues here in the U.S. They contain other whitening pigments like TiO2 as well. ![]() Many of the so-called Baryta papers do not have a traditional 100% baryta whitening layer. OBAs in paper core are less prone to cause significant yellowing in the image bearing layer, for example, than OBAs in a coating layer containing TiO2. Also, OBA comments like "very low" are not all that useful because they don't tell us where in the material the OBAs are located. Otherwise, it's impossible to compare them on whitepoint properties and/or OBA fluorescence. The manufacturers should really give media color properties in CIELAB values. It's a dead ringer for Hahnemühle Photo Silk Baryta, IGFS, etc., so probably being coated at Felix Schoeller in Europe, and perhaps now discontinued along with the others noted. Innova Exhibition Photo Baryta also contains OBAs. So, am I missing any widely-available baryta photo papers? Do you think any chart entries are incorrect? And maybe most importantly, do you have any comments on why you do or do not like certain baryta papers? (4) Weights range from 300 gsm (Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin and Red River Palo Duro Baryta Fiber) to 350 gsm (Hahnemühle Baryta FB). 0.4mm (Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta and Moab Juniper Baryta Rag). 0.3mm (Canson Baryta Photographique II Satin and Epson Legacy Baryta) to 16 mil i.e. Several other baryta papers claim "very low" OBA content. (1) (a) Only Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta, (b) (apparently) Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Fibre Silk, and (c) Moab Juniper Baryta Rag are 100% cotton (d) Canson Baryta Prestige is a mix of (apparently mainly) alpha-cellulose with (apparently less) cotton and the rest are 100% alpha-cellulose. ![]() I can tell you no manufacturer lists specifications for all of those. I'm not positive how to assess / compare "brightness", "whiteness", "gloss", "opacity", and similar specifications. Note that different manufacturers quote different specifications, and sometimes appear to address the same basic specification in different ways. I've compiled a little chart, taking information from the paper manufacturers' specifications, with some basic comparisons of some common baryta papers. Semi-subjective properties are certainly important, and I'm interested in your opinions on those, but what follows tries to be a reasonably-comprehensive listing with some basic objective data. ![]() The discussions have covered the recent lack of availability of many baryta inkjet papers, most of them being alpha-cellulose instead of cotton rag, many of them having OBAs, and new ones replacing old ones. Judging by recent threads, there is significant interest in baryta inkjet photo papers. ![]() ✔ IDEAL For The Job That Requires A Straight Line Or Accurate Measurement. ![]()
